MHA Webinars Focus on Conflict Resolution and Changing Employee Values

The MHA and the Huron Consulting Group are hosting two webinars focused on helping hospitals attract, retain and promote high-performing talent.

The How to Have Tough Conversations in Healthcare webinar will provide practical strategies to help attendees become a more effective communicator on Oct. 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. EST. Speaker Pam Beitlich, DNP, APRN, will reveal ways to set expectations and deliver difficult messages and will allow time for participants to practice managing conflict.

A Strategic Approach to Workforce Development webinar will highlight outdated norms in the work setting on Nov. 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. EST. Speaker Holly Lorenz, DNP, RN, will share how to respond and adapt to change as values and employee expectations change.

Individuals can register for $100 per login per webinar. CME and continuing education credit for nurses and pharmacists is available for each webinar attended. By attending both webinars, participants may earn up to two (2) ACHE Qualified Education Hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation.

The MHA and other state hospital associations are hosting three workforce webinars in partnership with the Huron Consulting Group, a firm helping organizations develop future-ready leaders that can drive meaningful cultural and organizational change. Continuing medical education and continuing education credit for nurses and pharmacists is available for each webinar attended. By attending the MHA Virtual Leadership Series, participants may earn up to three (3) ACHE Qualified Education Hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation.

The webinars are scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. EST on Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 9., focusing on transforming organizations to attract, retain and promote high-performing talent.

Wonder Drug: The Science of Serving Others, presented by Anthony Mazzarelli, MD, JD, will explain how to build positive psychology in the workplace and in personal lives, and how treating one another affects well-being and resilience. The October and November webinars focus on effective communication and conflict management and workforce attraction and engagement. AI and Workforce Development Webinar Series Offers CME Credit

The MHA and other state hospital associations are hosting a webinar series in partnership with the Huron Consulting Group Aug. 10 through Nov. 9 from 1 – 2 p.m. EST. CME and continuing education credit for nurses and pharmacists is available for each webinar attended. By attending the MHA Virtual Leadership Series, participants may earn up to four (4) ACHE Qualified Education Hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation.

The Aug. 10 webinar, How AI @ Work Will Advance Human Intelligence, presented by Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, will outline how artificial intelligence will affect data systems and readiness, clinician training and engagement and ethical frameworks. Additional topics focus on well-being and resilience, effective communication and conflict management and workforce attraction and engagement.

The MHA-member registration fee for all four webinars, with a maximum of 25 registered users, is a flat rate of $500. Members may contact Erica Leyko at the MHA to register at the group rate. Individuals can register for $100 per login per webinar, or for all four webinars for a flat-rate fee of $375.

News to Know – July 10, 2023

  • The MHA submitted a comment letter in response to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Medicaid Policy Bulletin (MMP) 23-39 on Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) issued May 30, 2023. The purpose of MMP 23-39 is to establish an MDHHS Medicaid Provider Manual chapter specific to PRTF service providers. The MHA utilized the MHA Behavioral Health Integration Council to inform the development of the comment letter on behalf of MHA member hospitals and health systems. MMP 23-39 was issued with a concurrent final policy effective date of July 1, 2023. Members with questions may contact Lauren LaPine at the MHA.
  • Michigan Medicaid Provider Outreach and Provider Support invite new or currently enrolled doula providers to attend the upcoming Doula 101 webinar scheduled Aug.  2 from 1 – 2 p.m. or Aug. 9 from 10 – 11 a.m. ET. This webinar will introduce providers to the Medicaid basics, offer an overview of the CHAMPS provider enrollment process, how to check a patient’s eligibility, submitting Medicaid fee for service claims, common claim denials and additional resources.   • MDHHS issued Medicaid Policy Bulletin (MMP) 23-45, Change in Non-Routine Therapy Prior Authorization (PA) Requirements for Medicaid Beneficiaries Residing in a Nursing Facility, June 30 with an effective date of Aug. 1, 2023. The purpose of the policy is to update PA and prescription signature requirements for non-routine therapy services provided to Medicaid beneficiaries residing in a skilled nursing facility. The change is expected to remove significant hurdles to beneficiaries obtaining services that may allow them to regain or retain crucial functionality while residing in a skilled nursing facility.
