As good corporate and neighborhood citizens, hospitals invest in their communities from both inside and outside of their facilities. In addition to helping restore and support good health, healthcare-related practices and organizations provided nearly 593,000 direct jobs in Michigan in 2023, contributing $79 billion a year in wages, salaries and benefits and an additional $23.6 billion a year in tax revenue. Hospitals alone provide roughly 222,000 of those jobs and $10.7 billion a year in tax revenue, representing 44% of healthcare’s direct tax revenue and remaining the largest healthcare sector in the state.
