Community Access to Health

Creating Healthy Communities

Michigan hospitals and health systems play a vital role in improving the health and well-being of the communities they serve. Through innovative care delivery, community partnerships, quality improvement initiatives and advocacy efforts, the MHA supports efforts that strengthen access to care and improve health outcomes across Michigan.

More Than Healthcare

Health is influenced by more than healthcare services alone. Access to care, behavioral health resources, housing, transportation, nutrition and other factors all play a role in shaping health outcomes.

Hospitals and health systems work alongside community organizations, public health agencies and other partners to address community needs and improve the health of Michigan residents.

As anchor institutions, hospitals serve as:

  • Healthcare providers
  • Safety net organizations
  • Community health leaders
  • Collaborative partners
  • Economic drivers

Together, these roles help create stronger, healthier communities throughout Michigan.
