BSC Implements New Electronic Document Sharing Program: Egress

The Bureau of Survey and Certification (BSC) serves as the state survey agency for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, conducting federal certifications and investigating specific complaints at Michigan healthcare facilities. During surveys, BSC surveyors require documents like medical records, facility census and policies from the facilities being evaluated. Previously, these documents were submitted through email or photocopies, a method that faced challenges such as limited file size, restricted document access and inconsistent communication.

To address these issues, BSC is implementing a new electronic document-sharing program, Egress, which allows for unrestricted file size and enables multiple users to access documents simultaneously. The BSC surveyor team will provide instructions and support to staff in using Egress and accessing their designated facility “zone”. This change aims to streamline the BSC survey process for Michigan hospitals. Members may refer to the announcement letter that outlines tips to help facilities prepare for the new system.
