MHA Hosts Successful Virtual Care Models Webinar

The MHA hosted nearly 100 healthcare staff in patient experience, nursing, quality and human resources roles May 2 during the webinar Virtual Care Models that Improve Engagement and Support Staff.

Representatives from Henry Ford Health and Trinity Health Grand Rapids outlined the design and interface of virtual care models among technology, care teams and the patient, and outcomes demonstrating the value of virtual care to both staff and patients. The webinar also highlights the MHA Person & Family Engagement Roadmap, which features research and tools proven to re-engage patients and improve person and family engagement.

An additional webinar, Recruitment Models that Grow a Strong and Patient-Centered Workforce,  is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. May 30. This webinar will outline nursing internship and patient care tech programs that help students and employees gain clinical experience and makes new and veteran employees feel valued. It will also review a program designed for high school students to excite them about the possible careers in clinical and nonclinical healthcare positions, and the value of building trusting relationships and emotional support with patients and families. Registration is free of charge for MHA member organizations.

So, at best, the ACA moved needles in each of the three but its effectiveness is a mixed bag. Nonetheless, it has survived 7 Supreme Court challenges and more than 70 Repeal votes in Congress and is now a permanent fixture in healthcare’s regulatory framework. Hanging chads aside, it is here to stay.

The need for ACA 2.0 is apparent and urgent. The motivation to initiate the process is uncertain: tribalism in U.S. healthcare, where near-term advantage takes precedent over long-term solutions by many organizations, is the rule, not the exception.

What’s needed is a coalition committed first and foremost to the long-term future of the health system: it doesn’t exist today.”

Registration is open for the MHA webinar, Virtual Care Models that Improve Engagement and Support Staff, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. May 2. Attendees will learn from experts and peers about how hospitals and health systems are operationalizing virtual care strategies to positively impact patient experience, clinical outcomes, safety and employee satisfaction.

The webinar, designed for patient experience, quality and human resources professionals and members of the care team, will explore:

  • Workforce shortage data and how technology can support care teams.
  • Virtual care designs and interfaces.
  • Recommendations and support from leadership, nursing and patient experience teams for virtual care.
  • Outcomes demonstrating the value of virtual care to the care team, patients and families.
