June 26 Application Deadline: Excellence in Governance Fellowship

Applications for the 2026–27 MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship are due June 26.

The fellowship helps hospital board members strengthen their expertise and leadership skills to enhance their impact within their organizations. Trustees from small and rural hospitals, as well as large health systems across Michigan, have graduated from the program.

Participants develop governance competencies and a mission-driven perspective that supports organizational success. The fellowship also helps board members better understand their role in advancing the health of their communities, promotes the importance of clinical and operational collaboration, and builds the knowledge and confidence needed to ask critical questions about a rapidly changing health care environment.

The fellowship is recommended for newer board members seeking to better understand the complexity of health care and for trustees preparing to serve on an executive committee.

Excellence in Governance Fellowship Offers Meaningful Dialogue Among Trustees and Experts

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026-27 cohort of the MHA Excellence in Governance Fellowship, a rigorous and comprehensive program delivering tools and knowledge in effective governance.

Hospital and health system governing board members who enroll will engage in dialogue with healthcare experts to gain skills to effectively consider strategies and make decisions and share their experiences with other trustees.

Hospital and health system governing board members who enroll will engage in dialogue with healthcare experts to:

  • Gain skills.
  • Effectively consider strategies.
  • Make decisions.
  • Share their experiences with other trustees.

Between October 2026 and June 2027, fellows will meet in person three times at the MHA headquarters in Okemos and participate in virtual sessions. More than 100 trustees have graduated from this unique program, and they all speak highly of it.

“The MHA Fellowship has given me the tools I need to engage more intentionally, the right questions to ask and to be a partner with the CEO in advancing healthcare,” said one graduate.
