Registration Open for 2025 Human Resources Conference

Registration is now open for the 2025 MHA Human Resources Conference, scheduled for March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Lansing. The event offers attendees an opportunity to expand their networks, share ideas and collaborate with fellow industry experts.

Based on feedback from 2024 Human Resources Conference attendees, the MHA is happy to announce the 2025 conference is valid for 5.25 PDCs for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP®.

Deadline Approaching for Advancing Safe Care Award

mha advancing safe care awardThe MHA is currently accepting nominations for its annual Advancing Safe Care Award, which recognizes hospitals that tackle issues daily to make care safer and more dependable. Eligible nominees include teams from hospitals across the state dedicated to transparency regarding the quality of care provided to patients and providing unmatched care to different patient populations.

Nominations for the 2025 award will be accepted through Jan. 31 and will be presented at the MHA Keystone Center Safety & Quality Symposium, scheduled for April 28 and 29, 2025 in East Lansing.

MHA Webinar to Review Upcoming Earned Sick Time Act

The MHA will host the webinar Earned Sick Time Act – What to Know and How to Prepare from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 9 to provide an overview of the upcoming Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) effective Feb. 21, 2025, and to help employers prepare for compliance.

The webinar will cover key elements of the act, including the requirement for employees to earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked, the ability to carry over unused sick time year-to-year and the increased usage cap of up to 72 hours per year. Presenters will also discuss the need for employers to update informational posters and address remaining questions about the act.

Attendees will gain practical insights into preparing for these changes and have the opportunity to ask questions. Members are encouraged to submit questions about ESTA to Erica Leyko at the MHA by Dec. 5.

Register for MHA 2024-25 Strategic Action Plan Webinar

The MHA is hosting a virtual member forum 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 to outline the MHA 2024 – 2025 strategic action plan approved by the MHA Board of Trustees. The plan will include a focus on critical issues like financial viability, workforce resilience, behavioral health, public health, health access, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

This forum will review the priorities and tactics to accomplish these goals and how the membership can support these initiatives. Presentations will be delivered by MHA CEO Brian Peters and other MHA leaders.

There is no cost to attend, but members are asked to register by Oct. 10. Access information for the virtual session will be sent Oct. 11.

MHA Webinar Reviews Workplace Safety and Privacy Laws

The MHA Health Foundation is hosting the Balancing Workplace Safety Privacy Laws webinar scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon, June 11. The webinar will address how hospitals balance the safety, security and privacy of patients, visitors and their workforces with policies set to keep employees and patients safe.

Industry experts will also explore the following subjects:

  • Innovative security measures for hospitals to address the recent increase in violent incidents in healthcare facilities.
  • Trend insights around legal and compliance issues, including Emergency Medical Treatment, the Active Labor Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Processes to create a safer care environment for patients, staff and visitors.
