Webinars Examine How COVID-19 Relates to Compliance with EMTALA Rules

As the coronavirus pandemic has unfolded, hospitals across the country asked how the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) would apply when they are met with individuals coming to their facilities with a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis. Although the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) did not change EMTALA requirements, the agency did clarify the requirements as they relate to the COVID-19 virus.

The MHA webinar series on EMTALA regulations will focus on CMS updates to the EMTALA manual made in July 2019 and outline the increase in deficiencies and increased CMS and Office of Inspector General activity.

The series includes three sessions, scheduled for Aug. 4, Aug. 11 and Aug. 18. Members can register for one session for $195 or at a discounted bundled rate of $550 for all three sessions. Members with questions should contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
