Compact Bills Receive Bipartisan Support in Michigan House

The Michigan House of Representatives passed legislation during the week of Oct. 27 to add the state to the speech-language pathologist (SLP) and audiologist licensure compact, as well as the professional counselor licensure compact.

House Bill (HB) 4509, sponsored by Rep. Luke Meerman (R-Coopersville), would add Michigan to the SLP and audiologist licensure compact. The bill passed the House 101-3 on Oct. 28 and has been referred to the Senate Health Policy Committee for further consideration.

HB 4591, sponsored by Rep. Karl Bohnak (R-Deerton), would also add Michigan to the professional counselor licensure compact. HB 4591 passed the House 83-23 on Oct. 29 and has also been referred to the Senate Health Policy Committee.

The MHA continues to support both compact bills and looks forward to movement in the Michigan Senate.
