Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative to Host Policy Workshop Mini-Series

The Michigan Recovery Workplace Initiative is hosting a three-part virtual Recovery Friendly Workplace Policy Workshop Mini-Series to help employers strengthen workplace policies that support employee well-being while maintaining compliance.

The remaining sessions will be held on July 30 and Aug. 6 and will cover the importance of workplace policies, key components of policy and practical strategies for developing and implementing recovery-friendly policies.

The series is led by Jo McGuire, executive director of the National Drug & Alcohol Screening Association. Participants who attend all three sessions are eligible to receive 4.5 Professional Development Credits through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for SHRM certification renewal, with credits also available for individual sessions.

The workshop aligns with ongoing efforts to expand recovery-oriented support across Michigan, including the development of peer recovery coach programs. As hospitals and health systems continue to improve behavioral health and substance use disorder services by integrating peer recovery support into clinical care, recovery-friendly workplace policies can help create supportive work environments, reduce stigma and promote efforts to recruit and retain individuals with lived experiences as part of the behavioral health workforce.

Members with questions may contact Kelsey Ostergren at the MHA.
