A presidential executive order (EO) was signed Aug. 10 that attempts to change federal childhood vaccine recommendations by narrowing routine immunizations to a smaller set of core vaccines and shifting others to shared clinical decision-making between families and providers. The EO does not make immediate changes to vaccine access or override existing state or federal law. 
There is no new medical evidence to support widespread changes to the childhood vaccine schedule. Providers may continue administering vaccines according to evidence-based schedules, with vaccines remaining available to patients and covered by insurance.
Michigan for Vaccines, a statewide, cross-sector coalition of public health agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations and advocacy partners, published a media statement Aug. 12 to reinforce to the public that vaccines remain readily available and are the best tool to prevent against severe illness from vaccine-preventable disease.
As stated in a previous MHA statement, hospitals are encouraged to continue administering vaccines consistent with evidence-based recommendations established by the American Academy of Pediatrics and supported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
