The MHA recently submitted a letter to leadership at the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) requesting a delay of the Oct. 1, 2026 provider requirements under the Mental Health Framework, specifically policies MMP 26-01 and MMP 26-30.
The letter reflects feedback collected from MHA members who continue to report concerns around guidance, added assessments, workforce challenges, billing and technology needs.
The MHA asked the MDHHS to delay provider’s requirements until clear guidance and practical processes are in place. This includes explaining where assessments can be completed, who can complete them and how providers should bill for these services. The letter also calls for a clear process to resolve denied or unpaid claims and prevent delays in patient care. Â
The MHA offered to convene a hospital workgroup to assist MDHHS in reviewing current workflows and implementation challenges to develop possible solutions. The association will continue to advocate for an implementation plan that protects patient care and does not place new requirements on providers while related payer requirements remain paused.Â
Members are encouraged to review the letter for additional details. Â
