The MHA submitted comments Sept. 18 in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Request for Information regarding immunization recommendations and clinical implementation. The comments emphasized the importance of maintaining evidence-based vaccine recommendations developed through transparent scientific review and highlighted the critical role trusted healthcare providers play in supporting patient confidence and informed decision-making.

The MHA urged federal officials to leverage existing scientific literature, national clinical organizations and established immunization advisory processes, rather than creating duplicative review structures that could generate confusion for patients and providers. The comments also underscored the operational challenges associated with changes to vaccine recommendations, including impacts on clinical workflows, quality reporting, coverage policies, public health programs and health information systems. 

The MHA also encouraged HHS to preserve clear, consistent and evidence-based immunization guidance that supports provider-patient relationships, minimizes administrative burden, and promotes public trust in the nation’s vaccine infrastructure.
