Registration is open for the 2026 MHA Small and Rural Advocacy Day, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Lansing Heritage Hall — Capitol Visitor’s Center in Lansing.
The event is designed for small and rural hospital CEOs, government relations team members, board leaders and senior executives to connect directly with district lawmakers and discuss the critical role hospitals play in protecting access to care, supporting local economies and serving as community anchors.
The morning will include breakfast and a brief program featuring Michael E. Shepherd, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Health Management & Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Shepherd’s research focuses on rural healthcare, health disparities, public opinion and policy decisions that shape access to care.
Following the program, participants will attend scheduled meetings with legislators. Conversations will focus on funding pressures, workforce needs, operational challenges and policies affecting the long-term sustainability of local healthcare services.
Hospitals are encouraged to include no more than two or three participants, such as a CEO or regional leader, and a board chair or trustee, to help share both operational and community governance perspectives. Members should register no later than Friday, Sept. 4.
