MHA Safety & Quality Committee Convene to Discuss Priorities

The MHA Safety & Quality Committee convened Sept. 18 to discuss patient safety priorities, advocacy developments, quality improvement initiatives and ongoing MHA Keystone Center activities.

The meeting opened with introductions and a patient story intended to highlight the importance of maintaining a strong culture of safety and learning across healthcare organizations. Committee members then received updates on current healthcare policy issues and legislative developments affecting Michigan hospitals and health systems.

The MHA Keystone team then overviewed board priorities and the 2026-27 MHA strategic action plan, emphasizing opportunities to align the committee’s work with broader organizational goals related to quality, safety and healthcare improvement. Keystone staff also provided updates from recent engagement calls and shared information related to Patient Safety Organization (PSO) activities, quality dashboards and maternal health initiatives. The discussion focused on leveraging data and member engagement to identify opportunities for learning, improvement and collaboration across participating organizations. Committee members were briefed on accreditation and state survey developments and spent time discussing emerging issues, readiness efforts and lessons learned that may support organizations as regulatory requirements evolve.

The meeting also included an update on the upcoming MHA Safety & Quality Symposium and opportunities to engage in future educational and networking activities.

The next committee meeting will be held virtually Nov.13, 2026. Those with questions are encouraged to contact the MHA Keystone Center.
