The MHA Center of Rural Excellence released the initial $8.6 million in Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) funding to MHA members who submitted qualifying applications the week of Aug. 3. The MHA Center of Rural Excellence was approved as a sub-grantee of the funds through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) application process.
Demand for RHTP funding significantly exceeded available resources. MDHHS criteria were used to fairly allocate funding, with priority given to hospitals located in fully rural counties. Additional MDHHS criteria included:
MDHHS requires RHTP funds to be administered through a reimbursement-based model.
The rapid fund allocations were due in large part to the collaborative relationship between the MHA Center of Rural Excellence and MDHHS. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are also important partners in RHTP funding administration, helping ensure funding meets reporting requirements, reimbursement procedures and program expectations.
