MHA Podcast Outlines November Ballot in Michigan

The MHA released a new episode of the MiCare Champion Cast featuring Laura Appel, executive vice president of government relations & public policy, MHA, exploring details about the upcoming 2026 general election and why it’s critical to Michigan’s healthcare future.

Michigan’s general election will be held Nov. 3. Appel kicked off the podcast discussing the current political climate, including insight on how to have productive conversations about healthcare policy and what issues have historically united leaders across the aisle.

Additionally, Appel overviewed ballot proposals and key candidate races in Michigan. In the 2026 election cycle, Michigan residents will have the opportunity to cast votes for:

  • Governor
  • State Attorney General
  • Secretary of State
  • U.S. Senator

The MHA’s Race of the Week series is also available to provide Michigan healthcare champions with the information they need to make informed voting decisions.

Later, Appel spoke about how voting directly influences healthcare at the local level and why eligible voters should get to the polls and engage with elected officials before, during and after the election cycle. As a reminder, those unable to vote in-person due to an unexpected hospitalization, physical disability, illness or death in the family are encouraged to contact their local clerk’s office to request an emergency absentee ballot.

The podcast episode is available to stream on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube. Those interested in learning more about the MiCare Champion Cast are encouraged to contact the MHA communications department.

Election Resources for Hospitals

The MHA launched the 2026 MI Vote Matters campaign to help Michigan hospitals and healthcare teams relay the importance of voting in the upcoming election. This includes posters geared toward patients, families, visitors and staff that are available to be printed, laminated and mailed through an online form at no cost to MHA members. Each poster can be affixed behind any plastic or plexiglass barrier.

Those interested can visit the MHA Elections webpage to access resources that highlight how voting helps protect access to care and ensures state leaders prioritize what’s in the best interest of Michigan’s healthcare community and those they serve.
