MHA Keystone Center Symposium Preconference Offers Guidance on K-9 Teams

The MHA Keystone Center Safety & Quality Symposium is designed for healthcare professionals working to advance patient safety and quality across the continuum of care. Michigan clinical teams, quality and safety professionals and healthcare executives are encouraged to join peers from across the state Oct. 14 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Lansing and secure their spot for this annual event.

This year’s event features the preconference, Pressing “Paws” on Healthcare Violence and Crime: A Look at K-9 Teams, which will examine the use of highly trained canines to enhance security, deter violence and support staff. The director of public safety and the hospital K-9 master instructor at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing will outline common perceptions and realities of K-9 dogs, steps involved in operating a K-9 program and funding needed for certifications, operations and tertiary costs. Attendees will also see K-9 trainers and dogs demonstrate scenarios such as searches for drugs or weapons.

The symposium offers an opportunity for professionals across Michigan to connect with peers, exchange insights and explore strategies to strengthen safety and quality in healthcare. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ and ANCC contact hours.

For more information about the symposium, contact  Erica Leyko at the MHA. Questions about registration should be directed to Janice Jones at the MHA.
