Every day, hospitals are working to make care safer, improve outcomes and strengthen the patient experience. Michigan hospitals’ commitment to quality improvement saves lives first and foremost, but it also helps reduce costs by preventing complications, avoiding unnecessary readmissions and improving the overall efficiency of the care patients receive.
When hospitals reduce infections, limit complications, advance workplace safety and improve care transitions, we know patients experience better outcomes and the healthcare system ultimately avoids unnecessary costs. That is why our members continue to invest significant time and resources in safety and quality initiatives, even amid workforce shortages and ongoing financial pressures.
We recently shared that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is extending its longstanding funding relationship with the MHA Keystone Center through a $1 million contribution focused on improving the physical and psychological safety of patients and healthcare professionals. This investment is further proof that Michigan hospitals’ commitment to quality and safety delivers measurable results. It recognizes that improving healthcare starts with supporting programs and partnerships that have a proven track record of reducing harm, improving outcomes and generating savings. Since its inception, MHA Keystone Center initiatives have helped save more than 5,150 lives while generating more than $565 million in cost savings.
The success of the MHA Keystone Center demonstrates the power of collaboration. Michigan hospitals recognize that improving healthcare requires partners across the healthcare system working together to identify meaningful solutions. We will continue seeking opportunities to collaborate with payers, community partners, lawmakers and others to advance solutions that improve safety, strengthen quality and create greater value for patients.
