The bipartisan Michigan Board of State Canvassers approved petition signatures collected by Michiganders for Money Out of Politics in a 3-1 vote July 24. The ballot measure would limit political donations from Michigan’s public utilities and large government contractors, including employees and their family members, thereby restricting political engagement and issue advocacy for everyday people and organizations.
The MHA continues to monitor this ballot initiative and work with a coalition of partners that shares its concerns. At this time, the state Legislature must either approve the ballot initiative within 40 days or it will go on the November ballot for Michiganders to decide.
