The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is accepting applications through Nov. 9 for the Michigan Opioid Treatment Access Scholarship Program, which provides educational scholarships to students preparing for careers providing opioid treatment services and helping address substance use disorder (SUD) workforce shortages. Â
Eligible students pursing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, nurse practitioner studies, physician assistant studies or public health may recieve the scholarships of up to $16,000 per year, depending on their degree program and requested years of support. Participants must commit to seeking employment providing opioid treatment services to Michigan residents for at least two years. Â
The MDHHS has allocated $2.5 million for the program, which is funded through the Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund and could support up to 100 students. Additional eligibility requirements and application materials are available on the MDHHS website. Â
