Waiver Available for DEA Rule on Disposal of Controlled Substances
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s final rule on disposal of controlled substances took effect last week, with potentially adverse consequences for hospital employees and patient care. Certain provisions of the rule are incompatible with established safety protocols, and new record-keeping requirements are unrealistic. Hospitals that are unable to comply may submit written requests for a waiver from the rule.
