Webinar Outlines Preparation for CMS Recovery Audit Contractors Review

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has resumed medical review activities, including pre- and post-payment reviews conducted by Medicare Administrative Contractors and Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs), which were paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

A free webinar will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon June 8 by Performant, Michigan’s RAC contractor, to outline the information hospitals and health systems need to understand to efficiently handle audits and have a well-designed process in responding to audits. Topics include types of RAC reviews; the RAC process for requests for and submission of medical records; the provider portal to access newly approved RAC procedures, claim review status and other materials; and how to appeal an RAC-reviewed claim.

Health information management directors and managers, coding and reimbursement professionals, and chargemaster coordinators are encouraged to attend. The webinar is free to MHA members, but registration is required to participate. Members with questions should contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
