Important healthcare news for the week of April 12:
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced April 1 the state’s Hepatitis C Elimination Plan and We Treat Hep C Initiative. Through this initiative, the MDHHS made an agreement with AbbVie, the manufacturer of the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) direct-acting antiviral MAVYRET®, to make treatment available to all Medicaid and Healthy Michigan Plan beneficiaries. Effective April 1, Michigan Medicaid has removed prior authorization requirements for MAVYRET. The MDHHS is partnering with Wayne State University’s Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center to develop curricula and trainings for interested clinicians and is contracting with Henry Ford Health System to maintain an HCV clinical consultation line to provide peer-to-peer advice to clinicians evaluating and treating patients for HCV.
