Behavioral health providers serving Michigan’s underserved areas are now eligible for medical education loan repayment. The MI Kids Now Loan Repayment Program is a medical education debt repayment program that aims to incentivize behavioral health providers to practice in underserved areas in Michigan where recruitment and retention can be a challenge. The program provides participants with up to $200,000 to repay their educational debt if they participate in the program for eight years.
Behavioral health providers that are eligible for the program include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, therapists and certified behavioral analysts. Providers must practice within clinical or public-school based systems located within a Health Professional Shortage Area to be eligible.
The deadline for Page 1, Part B of the MI Kids Now Loan application is July 29, 2022. MDHHS will accept Page 2 of the application as soon as providers receive the completed form back from their loan servicing company.
Additional information can be found on the MI Kids Now Loan Repayment Program website. Members with questions should contact Lauren LaPine at the MHA.
