The following statement can be attributed to Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.
The MHA and our member hospitals and health systems across Michigan are pleased that the FDA this morning issued full approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The agency reviewed hundreds of thousands of pages of safety and efficacy evidence and reaffirmed that this vaccine is extremely safe and effective at preventing COVID-19 – especially hospitalization and death. This particular vaccine is currently available for anyone aged 12 and older. Currently, a large majority of the people in Michigan hospitals with COVID are NOT fully vaccinated. We urge everyone eligible to get their vaccines – which are free and readily available through pharmacies, health departments, local clinics, health systems and more – as quickly as possible. The delta variant is quickly spreading in Michigan; we now have more than 1,000 of our neighbors and friends in hospital beds fighting this virus. Please support our healthcare workers, protect yourself and your family and stop this virus by getting your vaccine immediately and putting a mask on in public when appropriate. The evidence proves that these two simple steps work. We can beat this together.
