The MHA expresses our gratitude toward Gov. Whitmer in response to Executive Order 2020-16, which establishes the creation of disaster relief child care centers to help the families of essential workers, including healthcare workers. Healthcare workers are at the front lines of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The MHA and our hospitals are exploring every possible option to protect our staff and their families. Allowing the establishment or expansion of child care centers at hospital facilities or in their communities is one step toward helping to lessen, if even so slightly, the mental and physical stress on our healthcare workers during this unprecedented time.

The MHA will work with our members and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to ensure all hospital-affiliated child care facilities comply with the rules and/or orders to be issued by LARA and any existing regulations in place to prevent the exposure and spread of COVID-19.
