Antibiotics have saved countless lives and treated bacterial and fungal infections, from minor to severe, and parasites. However, people can develop antibiotic resistance due to overuse or misuse.
All babies have a risk for infection. However, premature babies have an increased risk due to an underdeveloped immune system and inability to fight off viruses and bacteria.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed significant changes to the infection control standards compliance worksheets that the CMS and The Joint Commission use to score hospitals, including a new requirement for hospital antibiotic stewardship programs.
