MHA Issues Statement on FDA Approval of COVID-19 Vaccine

Posted on December 12, 2020

The following statement on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine can be attributed to Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.

MHA CEO Brian PetersLast night’s action by the FDA to issue emergency use authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is a crucial first step toward the path of ending the pandemic. The data available show that this vaccine is safe and effective. Shortly, hospitals across Michigan will begin vaccinating healthcare workers who have been serving at the front lines of the pandemic for the past nine months. An approved COVID-19 vaccine is the biggest step toward protecting front-line caregivers since the pandemic began.

We still have a long road ahead toward vaccinating all Michiganders that will require the commitment of the public to continue COVID-19 prevention efforts including mask wearing, avoiding social gatherings, getting flu shots and practicing proper hand hygiene.
