Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Nov. 11:

  • The Hospital Affiliated Legislative Officers will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the MHA Capitol Advocacy Center, Lansing. For more information, contact Adam Carlson at the MHA.
  • The MHA Council on Behavioral Health Integration will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. Representatives of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will discuss the department’s pursuit of behavioral health system redesign. For more information, contact Laura Appel at the MHA.
  • Open enrollment for 2020 health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplaces runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15. About 12 million Americans enrolled in 2019 coverage through the marketplaces. The coming weeks are an opportunity to help individuals in all communities get covered for next year – either by re-enrolling or enrolling for the first time. America’s hospitals and health systems have long helped connect consumers with health coverage and will continue to do so as open enrollment continues.   • Applications are being accepted through Nov. 25 for the 2020 American Hospital Association (AHA) Dick Davidson NOVA Award, which recognizes outstanding collaboration by hospitals and health systems for healthier communities. Hospitals or healthcare systems that, in collaboration with community organizations, are measuring and evaluating the impact of their work on community health status are ready to apply for the award. Up to five organizations will be recognized with the award in 2020. In 2019, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, and Trinity Health, Livonia, were among the award winners. Read about Henry Ford’s Women-inspired Neighborhood Network and Trinity’s Transforming Communities Initiative on the AHA website.
