Crain’s Detroit Business: Michigan hospitals sponsor trustee day at the state Legislature
Posted on October 14, 2019
MHA CEO Brian Peters was featured in an article by Crain’s Detroit Business on the MHA’s Trustee Day at the Capitol event on Oct. 15.
The event is an advocacy day for hospital and health system governing board members, providing critical updates on the state budget, auto no-fault insurance, patient safety, behavioral health services, work requirements for Healthy Michigan Plan enrollees, and initiatives focused on health equity and improvement.
"We understand well that trustees are incredible influential voices," Peters said. "They serve on our hospital and health system governing boards and share much expertise around those tables."
"Our plan is to bring them down to our (Lansing) office, spend time with guest presenters, our own staff and discuss key public policy issues."
"I like to say politics is not a spectator sport. I bring it up everywhere I speak. We need hospital trustees willing to speak out and get involved in public policy issues. They have to educate themselves in public policy and if there are issues important to your community, get your voice heard."
