Crain's Detroit Business: Legislators approve 3.7% state health budget hike

Posted on September 25, 2019

Adam CarlsonAdam Carlson, the MHA’s senior director of government & political affairs, was featured in an article from Crain’s Detroit Business on the fiscal year 2020 Michigan Department of Health and Human Services budget, which was approved by the Legislature Sept. 24.

The MHA fully supports the budget, which fully funds the Healthy Michigan Plan, supports the Rural Access Pool and Obstetrics Stabilization Fund, and takes significant steps to improve Medicaid reimbursement rates paid to hospitals in Michigan.

"It is not any secret that Medicaid reimburses poorly for services. (The budget) increases Medicaid outpatient reimbursement rates by 7 percent," Carlson said.

The MHA applauds the Legislature for supporting Michigan’s healthcare community and the patients and families it serves. The association encourages members to thank their elected officials for their work on this year’s budget and to contact the governor to ask her to support the Medicaid funding for hospitals included in the budget.
