MHA Issues Statement on Death of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson

Posted on August 05, 2019

The following statement can be attributed to Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.

MHA CEO Brian PetersThe MHA family is saddened at the passing of L. Brooks Patterson Aug. 3. His long and successful career included much that enriched healthcare, not only in Oakland County, but across the state.

He created the successful life sciences alliance called the Medical Main Street, which links Southeast Michigan businesses with hospitals, universities, and medical device, telehealth and biopharma companies to grow the region’s life science hub.

Especially important to the MHA was Brooks’ unflagging support of Michigan’s longstanding auto no-fault insurance law. He could be counted upon to testify at legislative committees, write op-eds, and otherwise make known the need to continue no-fault coverage.

In June, the MHA honored Brooks with its Special Recognition Award for his decades of healthcare support and unwavering fight for adequate healthcare coverage for those injured in car accidents.

We will miss Brooks. We have lost a phenomenal standard-bearer, friend and human being.
