Safe Patient Handling Workshop Part of Ongoing Collaborative

Posted on August 01, 2019

MHA Workplace Safety CollaborativeHealthcare professionals gathered in Livonia July 23 for the MHA Keystone Center Safe Patient Handling Workshop.

Members learned how to mitigate harm associated with patient handling and about safe patient handling programs that some Michigan hospitals have implemented. The workshop was part of a statewide collaborative addressing workplace safety, which is an MHA priority.

Participants discussed how safely moving patients can lead to better outcomes and avoid staff injuries. Different types of lifting and mobility equipment and how patient and staff safety go together were also discussed.

Additional training on workplace safety will take place at the Sept. 25 MHA Workplace Safety Collaborative: Addressing Violence in Healthcare Settings event at the Detroit Marriott Troy. This interactive workshop is free of charge and open to all MHA members, but registration is required. The event will be held the day before the MHA Safety & Quality Symposium.

Members with questions should contact the MHA Keystone Center.
