Health & Hospital Association Elects 2019 Officers and Board Members

Members of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) elected new officers and appointed board members during the association’s Annual Membership Meeting June 27. Officers of the 2019 MHA Board of Trustees include John Fox, chair; Edwin Ness chair-elect; and Tina Freese Decker, treasurer. The board directs the greater Lansing-based association’s statewide representation of hospitals and healthcare providers.
Fox, president, Beaumont Health, Southfield, will serve as chairman during the association’s 2019-2020 program year beginning July 1. The terms of service of Ness, president and CEO, Munson Healthcare, Traverse City, and Freese Decker, president and CEO, Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, will also span the 2019-2020 program year. Gregory R. Lane, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, McLaren Health Care, Grand Blanc, will serve as immediate past chairman.
Karen Cheeseman, CEO, Mackinac Straits Health System, St. Ignace, was appointed as a trustee at-large for a three-year term. Mark Eastburg, president and CEO, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, Grand Rapids, was appointed as a trustee at-large for a one-year term, and Jean Meyer, chief operating officer, Ascension Michigan, Warren, was appointed as a trustee at-large for a two-year term.
Reappointed for three-year terms on the 2019-2020 MHA Board of Trustees as trustees at-large were Duke Anderson, president and CEO, Hillsdale Hospital; Daniel Babcock, CEO, Marlette Regional Hospital; Melany Gavulic, president and CEO, Hurley Medical Center, Flint; Timothy Johnson, president and CEO, Eaton Rapids Medical Center; and Anthony Tedeschi, MD, CEO, Detroit Medical Center. Edward Bruff, president and CEO, Covenant HealthCare, Saginaw, was reappointed to a two-year term on the board as a trustee at-large, and David Jahn, president & CEO, War Memorial Hospital, Sault St. Marie, was reappointed to a one-year term as a trustee at-large.
Continuing to serve their current terms of service as trustees at-large are Rob Casalou, president and CEO, Trinity Health Michigan Region, Canton; T. Anthony Denton, senior vice president and chief operating officer, University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, Ann Arbor; James “Chip” Falahee Jr., senior vice president, legal & legislative affairs, Bronson Healthcare Group, Kalamazoo; Diane Postler-Slattery, PhD, president and CEO, MidMichigan Health, Midland; Robert Riney, president, health care operations, and chief operating officer, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit; and Shelleye Yaklin, president and CEO, North Ottawa Community Health System, Grand Haven. In addition, Brian Peters was reappointed to serve an indefinite term of office as CEO of the association.
