Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of May 13:

  • It’s National Hospital Week! Celebrating hope and healing, this week is a special opportunity to acknowledge the hospitals, health systems and dedicated personnel who support the health and well-being of their communities. MHA CEO Brian Peters recorded a video message to thank Michigan’s more than 230,000 hospital employees and pledge the association’s support for them by placing a special focus on tackling violence against healthcare workers and burnout.
     
  • The MHA Keystone Center Workplace Safety Collaborative Webinar on Data Collection will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. The webinar will cover how to collect, categorize, and report data on workplace safety. Members with questions may contact the MHA Keystone Center.
     
  • The MHA Health Information Technology Strategy Committee will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. The meeting will cover the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan health information exchange incentives and the proposed Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology rules on healthcare information technology interoperability and healthcare information blocking.   • The MHA Health Foundation webinar CMS Hospital QAPI Worksheet and Standards will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. The webinar will review sections of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) worksheet and suggestions for establishing goals, scope, timing, milestones, and roles and responsibilities for improvements.   • The MHA Health Foundation webinar The Legal Landscape of Service and Assistance Animals will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Policies and procedures to follow when a patient asks to bring an animal into a hospital will be reviewed. For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
     
  • Dates have been chosen for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Annual Immunization Conferences. As details become available, they will be posted on the MDHHS website under Health Care Professionals. Conferences will be held Oct. 8 in Marquette, Oct. 10 in Grayling, Oct. 29 in Grand Rapids, Oct. 30 in Kalamazoo, Nov. 1 in Flint, Nov. 5 in Lansing, Nov. 7 in Rochester and Nov. 8 in Dearborn.
