MHA Webinar Reviews Patient Restraint Requirements

Posted on April 10, 2019

The use of restraints is not a panacea and can prevent significant risks to the patient. While situations sometimes require restraints, the use of them is controversial and highly regulated.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and The Joint Commission closely monitor appropriate use of restraints and the documentation of patient care while restrained. The MHA Health Foundation webinar CMS Hospital Restraint and Seclusion: Navigating the Most Problematic Standards and Proposed Changes will review types of education tools that will adequately educate staff on restraint use and documentation.

The webinar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon May 9, and MHA members can register for a connection fee of $195. Members with questions should contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
