Oakland Press Column: Upending the American healthcare system is not the right answer to heal what ails us

Posted on April 07, 2019

Brian PetersMHA CEO Brian Peters wrote an opinion piece published by the The Oakland Press April 6 on the importance of protecting the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the consequences a Medicare for All system could hold for patients.

“With close to a decade of experience in implementing the ACA, Michigan hospitals are skeptical that upending the existing system would benefit Michigan residents,” Peters wrote.

In the column, Peters expressed concern about upending the American healthcare system, but said we must we continue to fix and improve the elements of the ACA that have failed many Americans, especially those who have fallen through the cracks of affordable coverage, and press for lower prescription costs and greater transparency for providers and insurers.
