New Air Ambulance Requirements: What Hospitals Need to KnoqOn March 15, the MHA hosted a webinar with the Honigman law firm on new air ambulance requirements taking effect March 19. In addition to providing an overview, the webinar answered member questions about these requirements. A recording and materials are available for those who were unable to participate in the webinar.

As previously reported, effective March 19, hospitals are required to prioritize ground transportation over air for nonemergency patient transport. Public Act 384 of 2018 imposes a series of new patient disclosure requirements on hospitals seeking to order air ambulance transport for a nonemergency patient, unless the air transport is medically necessary. Failure to comply with the new requirements may result in financial liability for the hospital.

The MHA distributed a sample notice to assist hospitals in complying with the new law. Members with questions may contact Laura Appel at the MHA.
