MHA Webinar Reviews CMS Conditions of Participation Pharmacy, Medication Updates

Posted on March 13, 2019

Medications are involved in 80 percent of all treatments, which is the primary reason medication procedures are closely monitored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Surveyors are looking particularly closely at pharmacy procedures, including how organizations are promoting safe opioid use, whether there is a compliant opioid policy, and how to ensure staff members dispense medications within one of three blocks of time.

The MHA Health Foundation webinar Complying with the 2019 CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation: Pharmacy and Medication will review:

  • Policies and procedures that measure compliance of all staff involved in the medication process.
  • CMS requirements for beyond-use date and medication compounding.
  • CMS requirement for a policy on high-risk drugs, such as dose limit or double checks.
  • The role of physicians and nurses in supporting medication adherence.

The webinar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon April 9 and MHA members can register for a connection fee of $195. Members with questions should contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
