Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of March 11:

  • The MHA Keystone Center Workplace Safety Collaborative will kick off from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the VisTaTech Center – Schoolcraft College, Livonia. The kickoff meeting will provide an overview of the four main workplace safety areas the collaborative will address: violence; sharps injuries; safe patient handling/musculoskeletal disorder; and slips, trips and falls.   • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Innovation Improvement Network will host a Health Equity Regional Learning Session from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the VisTaTech Center – Schoolcraft College, Livonia. The event will address pertinent issues surrounding health equity and specific ways to implement change with a data-driven approach in communities and healthcare organizations.   • The MHA Behavioral Health Integration Task Force will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. The task force will discuss proposed budget boilerplate language related to the pilot projects integrating physical and mental healthcare and their respective funding sources.   • The MHA Legislative Policy Panel will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the MHA Capitol Advocacy Center in downtown Lansing. Guest speaker Rep. Mary Whiteford (R-Casco Twp.), chair of the House Health and Human Services Appropriation Subcommittee will discuss the fiscal year 2020 executive budget recommendation.   • The MHA Council on Children’s Health will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. Dawne Bell, CEO of the Lansing-based Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC), will provide an overview of the work of the ECIC and its focus on early childhood healthcare.   • An informational webinar will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday to review the Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Innovation Improvement Network scoring index for the 2019-2020 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Pay-for-performance Peer Group 5 program.   • The MHA will host a webinar from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday to explain new air ambulance requirements that will take effect March 19 (see related article). Hospital compliance professionals, clinical staff leaders and quality/case management professionals should have received an invitation to the webinar March 8.
