Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of March 4:

  • The MHA will host workplace safety training, Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM®), at several locations this week. Trainings have been set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4 in OkemosMarch 5 in SaginawMarch 6 in St. Ignace, and March 7 in Marquette. The training is designed exclusively for healthcare workers, including professional support staff and volunteers, and will be led by HSS, an MHA Service Corporation endorsed business partner. MHA members can register at a cost of $100 per person. For more information about the training, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
     
  • The webinar Social Determinants of Health (SDOH): From Screening to Action will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday. Presented by the Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network, the webinar will highlight examples of programming and strategies centered around SDOH and their impact on care coordination and readmissions. The webinar is offered free of charge, but registration is required. For more information, contact the MHA Keystone Center.
     
  • The MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Annual Meeting will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Henry Autograph Collection, Dearborn, with a virtual option available. The event will focus extensively on workplace safety and will also discuss diagnostic errors, safety culture and burnout. The event is offered free of charge, but registration is required for both in-person and virtual attendance. For more information, contact the MHA Keystone Center PSO.
     
  • Part 2 of the three-part MHA Health Foundation webinar series on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2019 Conditions of Participation for Hospitals will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. This series reviews in detail newly finalized CMS Conditions of Participation rules and how to make quick, effective changes to ensure compliance. Part 2 will focus on the standards for nurse staffing, delivery of care, and preparation and administration of drugs, and members may register for a fee of $195. Part 3 of the series will be presented March 21. For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
     
  • The state Office of Regulatory Reinvention (ORR) is revising the rules for licensing health facilities and agencies to develop a single, updated rule set to replace the current six rule sets. On Feb. 21, the ORR approved the draft Licensure Rules for Hospitals and Other Health Facilities. The next step in the rule-making process is for the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to prepare the Regulatory Impact Statement and Cost/Benefit Analysis for the draft rules. After LARA has submitted the analysis to ORR for approval, a date for a public hearing will be set. The hearing is expected to take place in late April.
