Materials Available from Dec. 10 OPPS Webinar

The MHA, along with DataGen, recently hosted a national webinar to review the final rule to update the Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS), effective Jan. 1, 2019. Materials and a recording are available for those who were unable to participate in the webinar.
While the impact varies by individual hospital, the rule is estimated to increase Medicare FFS OPPS payments to hospitals statewide by $6.5 million, or 0.3 percent in 2019. To assist hospitals in understanding the estimated financial impact on their operations, the MHA distributed a hospital-specific analysis Nov. 28.
Hospitals are also encouraged to participate in upcoming webinars to review the Medicare quality-based programs. The value-based purchasing program will be featured in a Jan. 30 webinar, followed by a review of the Medicare readmissions reduction and hospital-acquired conditions reduction programs in a Feb. 6 webinar. Each session will begin at 3 p.m. and is available free of charge; however, registration is required.
Following release of final factors for the fiscal year 2019 Medicare quality-based programs, which is expected soon, the MHA will provide hospitals with an updated summary of performance and the estimated financial impact, with comparisons to prior years. Members with questions should contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
