Materials Available from CHAMPS Webinar

Posted on December 06, 2018

The MHA hosted a webinar Dec. 5 with the Medical Services Administration (MSA) Hospital and Clinic Reimbursement Division to review the new facility settlement subsystem of the Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS), which is scheduled to go live Dec. 17.

The MSA will require that all cost reports for fiscal years ending June 30, 2018, and after are submitted using the new system. In addition, hospitals will be required to use CHAMPS to submit cost reports for prior fiscal years that were not accepted by Dec. 7. Cost reports for June 30, 2018, and prior years are due March 1, with extensions to be granted for all hospital cost report submissions during the hospital’s first year using CHAMPS. A recording and materials from the webinar are now available.

All hospitals, regardless of whether they receive Medicaid or capital interim payments, will be required to submit a quarterly cost report via CHAMPS, with reports due Jan. 31, 2019, for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2018. Future quarterly reports are also due 30 days after the quarter end.  These reports contain only two worksheets, which capture charges, patient days and discharges for Medicaid fee-for-service and managed care organizations.

Hospitals are encouraged to review these materials and contact MSA staff members Steve Ireland, Craig Castagnasso or Michael Gonzales with questions. In addition, hospitals are encouraged to review their contact information in the provider enrollment section of CHAMPS and ensure that updates are made when staff changes occur.  Members with questions can also contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
