Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Oct. 29: 

  • The High Reliability Organization Tier 2 Workshop, hosted by the MHA Keystone Center and the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Otsego Resort, Gaylord. The event will be the last workshop for the current, three-year project and will focus on transforming daily work to support the ongoing pursuit of zero harm to patients and healthcare workers. Additionally, the workshop will allow attendees to share experiences with their peers and highlight the importance of integrating high reliability concepts into their organizations.   • Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network Critical Care Simulations will take place from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. The hands-on simulations will demonstrate appropriate assessments for the A-F bundle, including pain, agitation and delirium, how to safely mobilize a critically ill patient and improving interdisciplinary rounds.   • The MHA Keystone Center Board of Directors will meet from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. This meeting will serve as the annual retreat for the board and will focus on the development of a multiyear strategic plan for the organization. Members with questions may contact Brittany Bogan at the MHA.
     
  • The Linking Quality to Strategy and Operations workshop for members of healthcare governing boards will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. The workshop will help board members understand the quality of care being delivered and how to establish clear and dependable monitoring systems to discover hidden problems and uncover subtleties that result in higher performance.   • The MHA Associate Member/Nonmember Forum will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday at MHA headquarters, Okemos. The forum will review the MHA’s membership benefits; involvement in MHA committees, councils and task forces; and activities and events for the next several months. An update on the latest MHA Keystone Center clinical and data initiatives will also be provided. For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.
     
  • The three statewide ballot proposals up for voter approval Nov. 6 are highlighted in this week’s MHA Election 2018 Race of the Week feature. The weekly series, which will run until Election Day, will examine major statewide races and ballot issues facing voters. Members can also visit the MHA Election page for additional information or follow the MHA’s Election 2018 coverage on social media using #MIVoteMatters. In addition, MHA members can still request complimentary informational election materials geared toward healthcare workers and voters via an online order form.
