Workplace Safety Main Topic at MHA Keystone Center PSO Safe Table

Posted on October 22, 2018

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare currently employs over 18 million people and is one of the quickest growing industries in the United States. However, the healthcare environment can present a unique set of challenges to its workforce, from exposure to biohazards and chemicals to workplace violence and burnout.

Michigan hospitals are working collaboratively to address the best approaches to workplace safety and the health and well-being of staff members. The MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization (PSO) recently held a safe table for its members to learn best practices and procedures surrounding workplace safety and subsequently support improvement efforts within their organizations.

The event was held Oct. 16 at the VisTaTech Center – Schoolcraft College, Livonia. Safe tables are available exclusively to MHA Keystone Center PSO members and provide a legally protected forum for open, transparent dialogue about safety and quality issues.

Nearly a dozen MHA Keystone Center PSO members attended the event to discuss a variety of workplace safety issues, including behavioral health, de-escalation training, emergency room violence, and patient behavior.

The next safe table will take place Feb. 14, 2019, from noon to 3 p.m. at the William Kitti Education Center, Kalkaska. Registration will be available soon.

Members with questions may contact the MHA Keystone Center PSO.
