News to Know - Week of Sept. 10

Posted on September 08, 2018

Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Sept. 10:

  • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network High Reliability Organization monthly webinar — Patient and Family Advisory Councils will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. This webinar will discuss the creation of patient and family advisory councils (PFACs), what to do with them, and how to translate that work to patient/family representation on board committees. For more information, contact the MHA Keystone Center.

  • The MHA Health Foundation webinar Physician Supervision & Incident-to Compliance will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Some of the questions the webinar will answer about billing for “incident-to” services are: Why does the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services frequently refer to incident-to services? How is incident-to different for hospitals and physicians? How does incident-to apply to critical access hospitals and rural health clinics? For more information, contact Erica Leyko at the MHA.

  • Tune in to Michigan’s Big Show hosted by Michael Patrick Shiels on Wednesday to hear from MHA CEO Brian Peters and other healthcare leaders about efforts to fight the opioid epidemic in Michigan. Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the show will air 6 to 9 a.m. at 92.1 FM in Lansing or online at www.mibigshow.com.

  • FocusOne Solutions is an MHA Endorsed Business Partner that can help streamline members’ processes for contingent staffing and provide analytics surrounding usage and spending. From 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, MHA members are invited to join an online interactive demonstration of the company’s services and participate in a question-and-answer session. After registering for the webinar, registrants will receive a confirmation email containing details about joining the webinar. For more information, contact Rob Wood at the MHA.

  • The MHA Cybersecurity Member Forum will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Davenport University, Lettinga Campus, in Grand Rapids. The forum will focus on current cyber threats facing hospitals and health systems; major cyber incidents experienced by the FBI and healthcare leaders; and threat actors, their motivations and the techniques they use to penetrate hospital networks to steal valuable data or insert ransomware. For more information, contact Laura Appel at the MHA.

  • Project leaders are currently being solicited for the 2018 Michigan Harvest Gathering. A recent story on Helen Newberry Joy Hospital covers how the hospital revamped its Michigan Harvest Gathering collection campaign in 2017, involving the entire community while reducing the demand on hospital staff. For more information, contact Andrea Duguay at the MHA.
