Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Aug. 27:

  • MHA offices will be closed Sept. 3 in honor of Labor Day. The next issue of Monday Report will be dated Sept. 10. MHA meetings and events occurring before Sept. 10 are listed below. Have a happy and healthy Labor Day!
  • The Review of FY 2019 Medicare Inpatient Final Rule webinar will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. The webinar will review the recently released final rule to update the Medicare fee-for-service inpatient prospective payment system for fiscal year 2019. The webinar is being offered free of charge, but registration is required. For more information, contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
  • The MHA Small or Rural Hospital Council will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at MHA headquarters. Laura Appel, senior vice president and chief innovation officer, MHA, will discuss recent developments in the state’s behavioral health policy. For more information, contact Bill Jackson at the MHA.
  • The Michigan Hospital Opportunity to Challenge Medicare Inpatient Prospective Payment System Standardized Amount webinar will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6. Registration is open to attend this free educational webinar with the Honigman law firm to discuss an opportunity for Michigan hospitals to potentially achieve Medicare payment recovery in a group appeal. For more information, contact Vickie Kunz at the MHA.
  • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Improvement Innovation Network Sepsis Simulation will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Saginaw. The hands-on simulation will teach best practices for the identification and treatment of sepsis and is designed for intensive care unit and/or emergency department nurses and doctors and rapid response team members. Due to an overwhelming response, the MHA Keystone Center is no longer accepting registrations for this event. To be added to the wait list, contact the MHA Keystone Center.
