Resources Available for BPCI Advanced Model

Posted on February 23, 2018

As reported Jan. 11, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Bundled Payment for Care Initiative Advanced (BPCI Advanced) program, a voluntary Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) 90-day episode payment model. Key dates for interested providers to consider have now been released: ‚Äč

  • Applications are due to the CMS by March 12
  • The CMS will distribute target prices to applicants in May
  • The CMS will offer Participant Agreements to applicants in June
  • Providers must return signed Participant Agreements, along with clinical episode selections, to the CMS in August
  • Program begins Oct. 1

Hospitals and physician group practice applicants are encouraged to request detailed, historical claim-level data for the FFS Medicare beneficiaries who would have been included in a clinical episode attributed to the applicant’s organization to evaluate patterns, opportunities and risks. In late January, DataGen hosted a webinar that reviewed the BPCI Advanced model. Materials and a recording from the webinar are posted online for review. Once the applicant has obtained its detailed file, DataGen has analytical support tools available for purchase to assist in evaluating participation prior to the August commitment date. Members with questions should contact Jason Jorkasky at the MHA.
