Upcoming events and important healthcare news for the week of Feb. 19: 

  • The Great Lakes Partners for Patients (GLPP) Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) Person and Family Engagement webinar “Partnering with Patient/Family Advisors to Improve Quality & Safety” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Registration is free and open to all GLPP HIIN members. The webinar will showcase examples of organizations engaging and partnering with patients and family members as advisors on improvement efforts, using their insights to improve the quality and safety of healthcare.   • The MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization will host a Root Cause Analysis & Action (RCA²) Safe Table from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the VisTaTech Center - Schoolcraft College, Livonia. This safe table meeting will build off the 2017 RCA² trainings and provide a more interactive approach to examining barriers and strategies for successful implementation.   • An MHA Member Forum will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Acme, in conjunction with the MHA Breakthrough conference. The forum is free of charge and open to MHA members only. Members can register online or by contacting Andrea Duguay at the MHA. Additional sessions are scheduled for March 13 in Southfield and March 14 in Grand Rapids. For more information on these forums, contact Marilyn Litka-Klein at the MHA.
  • Part 2 of a four-part webinar series on reducing hospital readmissions will take place from 2 to 3 pm Wednesday. This webinar is for members of the Great Lakes Partners for Patients Hospital Innovation Improvement Network and will review common symptoms of sepsis, causes of preventable hospital readmission after sepsis, and recommended strategies for enhancing recovery and avoiding rehospitalization after sepsis.   • The MHA Small or Rural Hospital Council will meet from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Acme, in conjunction with the MHA Breakthrough conference. Participants will receive updates on the MHA Keystone Center and the MHA’s advocacy efforts. There will also be a presentation on energy efficiency.   • MHA Breakthrough will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday and continue through 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Breakthrough is an experience that will inspire and mobilize participants to pursue real change. Healthcare executives, senior leaders and trustees will co-create a better way to deliver care, engage people and drive results. For more information, contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
  • The MHA Health Foundation webinar “Understanding Medicare Telemedicine Billing Guidelines” will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The webinar will cover Medicare guidelines for documenting and billing for telemedicine services and the types of providers that may offer telemedicine services to Medicare beneficiaries.   • The Healthcare Leadership Academy “Business Strategy for a Changing Landscape” will take place from noon Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The academy is designed to teach physicians new skills associated with influence, strategic conversations and building trust, while also developing knowledge of innovative care delivery and financing models.
